FOLEY - A Sauk Rapids man is in jail after leading deputies on a high speed chase in a stolen vehicle.

The Benton County Sheriff's Department says the incident began at about 11:20 p.m. last (Thursday) night near the intersection of Highway 23 and Highway 95.

A deputy on patrol spotted a speeding vehicle, with no working taillights, weaving back and forth.  The vehicle led the deputy on a chase eastbound on Highway 23, to Benton County Road 25.

The chase reached speeds up to 65 miles an hour.  On Sherburne County Road 20, a deputy deployed spike strips, which deflated two tires on the vehicle, which caused the vehicle to go into the ditch.

Arrested was 47-year-old Earnest Carlstrom of Sauk Rapids.

He's expected to be charged with fleeing police, possession of a stolen vehicle, driving after cancellation, and driving under the influence.
