The Wild lost 6-0 at Detroit to the Red Wings Friday night. Detroit scored twice in the first period, 2 times in the 2nd and once in the 3rd. Josh Harding had 23 saves but 6 goals allowed and Mathew Hackett replaced and had 6 saves.
The St. Cloud State men's hockey team defeated #2 Minnesota-Duluth 2-1 Friday night to keep their home ice hopes alive in the WCHA playoffs. Brooks Bertsch and Travis Novak each scored a goal for the Huskies and Mike Lee had 35 saves. SCSU has 27 WCHA points and is tied with Nebraska-Omaha for 6th place in the league standings.
Every year I look forward to spring. It isn’t that I don’t enjoy my time on the ice in the winter, because I certainly do. However, there is something about getting back in the boat and on open water that I greatly appreciate.
Tonight is also the final regular season game on the bench as a head coach for Bob Brink. Brink has been the head coach at Rocori for the past 42 years and has coached for the last 51 years. The 74-year old has amassed 936 wins, which is 2nd all-time behind Bob McDonald at Chisholm. Brink is has sent Rocori to 12 state tournaments including a 26-0 season in 1988 when Rocori won the Class AA state title.
The Timberwolves lost 104-95 at Phoenix Thursday night on the 3rd night of a back to back to back. Kevin Love had 23 points and 10 rebounds after missing Wednesday night's game due to flu-like symptoms. Luke Ridnour had 15 points and Nikola Pekovic added 14 points for Minnesota. Grant Hill led Phoenix with 20 points.
Montreal downed the Minnesota Wild 5-4 in an overtime shootout Thursday night. Matt Kassian scored 2 goals for the Wild, Devin Setoguchi added a goal and an assist but fell on his attempted shootout goal. Dany Heatley added a goal and Nick Johnson had 3 assists for the Wild. Niklas Backstrom left the game early with a knee injury and was replaced by Josh Harding. Harding had 19 saves.
The newly named St. Cloud Rox in the Northwoods League baseball league has come to a 1-year contract agreement with AM 1390-the Fan (KXSS) to broadcast their 70 game schedule. AM 1390-the Fan is owned and operated by Townsquare Media of St. Cloud. Townsquare Media consists of WJON, 98 Country, 103.7 the Loon, Mix 94.9 and Rev 96.7. The St. Cloud River Bats were partnered with AM 1390-the Fan for the broadcasts from 2001-2011.
Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton announced at a press conference today that the state, city of Minneapolis and Minnesota Vikings have an agreement to build the new stadium near where the Metrodome currently is. The deal is contingent on approval from the Minneapolis city council and Minnesota state legislature. The stadium will cost approximately $975 Million with the Vikings contributing $427 Million, the city contributing $150 Million and state would pay for $400.
