Morneau Wants to Play In First Exhibition Game

Twins first baseman Justin Morneau says he wants to play in the Twins first exhibition game against Tampa Bay Saturday at 12:05 in Fort Myers, Florida. Hear the game on WJON. Morneau has been battling concussion symptoms and other injuries over the past 2 seasons but says he feels good after a week of spring training. Morneau hit a double and a homerun in batting practice against Francisco Liriano Tuesday.

Lakers Pound Timberwolves 104-85

The Timberwolves lost 104-85 in Los Angeles to the Lakers Wednesday night. Michael Beasley and Martell Webster each scored 14 points for the Wolves and Derrick Williams had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Kevin Love did not play due to flu-like symptoms. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 31 points while wearing a mask to protect his broken nose.

SCSU Men’s Basketball Falls In NSIC Tournament

The St. Cloud State men's basketball team lost 64-53 in the NSIC/Stanford Health Tournament quarterfinals to Winona State Wednesday night. SCSU shot just 30 percent from the field while Winona State shot 38 percent. Shaun Jensen led the Huskies with 20 points and Theo Rothstein added 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Timberwolves Beat Clippers In L.A.

The Timberwolves won 109-97 at Los Angeles against the Clippers Tuesday night. Minnesota outscored the Clippers 36-21 in the 4th quarter. Michael Beasley and Derrick Williams each scored 27 points for Minnesota and Nikola Pekovic had 12 points. Blake Griffin led the Clippers with 30 points.

Kings Blanks Wild 4-0

The Minnesota Wild lost 4-0 at home against the Los Angeles Kings Tuesday night. The Kings scored 3 first period goals. Niklas Backstrom had 11 saves for the Wild. Minnesota outshot Los Angeles 26-15. Minnesota is 28-26-9 and will play at Montreal at 6:00 Thursday night, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 5:35.

St. Cloud Rox Are Reborn

The St. Cloud Northwoods League team is now the St. Cloud Rox. The annoncement took place at Legends Bar and Grill inside the St. Cloud Holiday Inn Tuesday night. Team President and part owner Gary Posch says the name "Rox" was submitted more than 300 times by fans and it's a name he's wanted for St. Cloud for the past 10 years. The St. Cloud Rox were a minor league baseball team in the Northern League in New York Giants, San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs systems from 1946 to 1971.

St. Cloud NWL Team To Reveal Name Tonight

The St. Cloud Northwoods League team that has remained nameless since Gary Posch, Joe Sexton and Scott Schreiner bought the team in January will reveal its new team name, logo and colors at an event at Legends Sports Bar and Grill inside the St. Cloud Holiday Inn tonight at 7pm. The event is free and open to the public. Merchandise and season tickets will be available for purchase at the event.

The Minnesota Wild traded defenseman Nick Schultz to Edmonton for defenseman and Minnesota native Tom Gilbert. Schultz is the all-time leader in games played for the Wild with 743. He has played in at least 79 games in each of the last 6 seasons for Minnesota including all 62 games this season. Gilbert has 3 goals and 14 assists in 47 games for Edmonton.
