The Twins downed Pittsburgh 10-0 Sunday afternoon in exhibition play in Florida. Francisco Liriano threw 5 no-hit shutout innings with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk to get the win. Jamey Carroll went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored and both Joe Benson and Trevor Plouffe each had 2 hits, a run and 1 RBI for the Twins. Prospect Brian Dozier hit a solo homerun for Minnesota.

Lakers Beat Timberwolves 97-92

The Timberwolves lost 97-92 at Los Angeles to the Lakers Friday night to fall to 22-23 on the season. Kevin Love led the Wolves with 27 points and 15 rebounds and Nikola Pekovic had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Minnesota. The Wolves trailed throughout the game and made it interesting in the 4th quarter. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 28 points.

St. Cloud State has announced the hiring of Heather Weems as their new Athletic Director today at a press conference at their Welcome Center. The 37-year old Weems has been Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Women's Administrator at Drake University since 2009 after being Associate Athletics Director at Denver University from 2002-2009.

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits lost 68-60 in the 2nd round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament to 3rd seeded Baylor Thursday night in Albuquerque, New Mexico. St. Cloud Tech graduate Nate Wolters led the Jacks with 19 points.

Rocori Basketball Headed To State

The Rocori boys basketball team is headed to the Class 3A State tournament after beating Delano 52-49 in the Section 53A final Thursday night at St. Cloud State's Halenbeck Hall. Nate Meyer and Mac Mueller led a balanced Spartan attack with 11 points apiece and Sam Moriarty had 10 points for Rocori. The Spartans improve to 18-11 and go to the state tournament for the 13th time under head coach Bob Brink.

SCSU Hockey Falls In WCHA Final Five

The St. Cloud State men's hockey team lost 4-1 to North Dakota in the WCHA Final Five at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Thursday night. Ben Hanowski scored the lone SCSU goal in the 1st period to tie the game at 1 before North Dakota got the game-winner from Brock Nelson in the 2nd period. Mike Lee had 24 saves in net for the Huskies.

Jazz Edge Wolves In Overtime

The Timberwolves lost 111-105 in overtime to Utah Thursday night. Kevin Love led the Wolves with 25 points and 16 rebounds, Nikola Pekovic added 20 points and 9 rebounds and Luke Ridnour had 18 points and 13 assists for Minnesota. The Wolves were outrebounded 55-47 and Gordon Hayward led the Jazz with 26 points.

The Twins lost 17-6 to Pittsburgh in exhibition play in Fort Myers, Florida Thursday afternoon. Twins rule 5 draftee Terry Doyle started the game and allowed 7 hits and 8 earned runs in 2/3 of an inning to take the loss. Joe Mauer was 1-3 with 2 RBIs and Luke Hughes was 2-2 with 1 RBI.

Timberwolves Close to 3-Team Trade

The Timberwolves are reportedly close to a 3-team trade that will send 6'10 power forward Michael Beasley to the Lakers and net them shooting guard Jamal Crawford from Portland. In the deal guard Steve Blake would go from Los Angeles to Portland. Crawford is a 31-year old 6'5 shooting guard who averages 14.2 points a game. He's an 11-year veteran.
