Gophers Down La Salle In NIT

The Gopher men's basketball team won their first round NIT game 70-61 at La Salle in Philadelphia Wednesday night. Minnesota rallied in the 2nd half and shot 52 percent from the field. La Salle shot 47 percent. The Gophers were led by Rodney Williams with 21 points, Austin Hollins had 16 points and Andre Hollins had 13 points.

Twins Win Exhibition Game Against Phillies

The Twins defeated Roy Halladay and the Phillies in Clearwater, Florida Wednesday afternoon. Chris Parmalee hit a 3-run homerun and Halladay threw just 2 2/3 innings with 5 earned runs allowed to take the loss. Jason Marquis threw 4 innings with 8 hits and 4 earned runs to get the win. Denard Span added 3 hits for the Twins.

Litchfield Native, John Carlson Signs With Vikings

The Vikings have reportedly agreed to sign free agent tight end John Carlson from Litchfield, Minnesota Wednesday to a 5-year $25 Million contract. Carlson visited the Vikings facility today and agreed to the deal. Carlson was a 2nd round pick by Seattle in 2008 but missed all of last season with a shoulder injury.

St. Cloud’s Nate Wolters Competes In NCAA Tournament (audio)

The South Dakota State Jackrabbbits play in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament Thursday night at 6:27pm in Albuquerque, New Mexico as the #14 seed in the South Region against 3rd seeded Baylor. The top scorer for South Dakota State is junior guard Nate Wolters, a St. Cloud Tech graduate.

The Minnesota Wild lost 1-0 at home against Dallas Tuesday night. Jamie Benn scored the lone goal in the 3rd period. Mathew Hackett had 24 saves for the Wild and Kari Lehtonen had 25 saves to earn the shutout for Dallas.

Twins Lose Exhibition Game 8-2

The Twins lost 8-2 in exhibition play to Toronto Tuesday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida. Francisco Liriano threw 3 innings with 4 earned runs allowed to take the loss. Alex Burnett was roughed up too. He allowed 4 earned runs in 2/3 of an inning. Joe Mauer was 2-3 with a run scored and Trevor Plouffe was 1-3 with 1 RBI.

49ers Agree To Sign Randy Moss

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to terms on a 1-year contract with former Viking receiver Randy Moss. Moss worked out with the 49ers this weekend with 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh throwing him passes. Moss didn't play in the NFL in 2011 after playing with New England, Minnesota and Tennessee in 2010.
