Investigators: Karlstad Fire Likely Arson

Fire investigators say a wildfire that destroyed several homes in the northwest town of Karlstad this month was probably arson. The Department of Natural Resources says the fire is still being investigated, and a $6,000 reward is being offered for information that helps identify the person who set it.

Report: Fires in BWCA Contained, Controlled, Out

All wildfires in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of northeastern Minnesota are contained, controlled or out. But the U.S. Forest Service says Saturday campfire restrictions remain for the entire wilderness area, and some lake and trail closures still are in effect.

Wildfire Slowly Growing in BWCAW Near Ely

A fire continues to slowly grow in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness northwest of Ely. A spokeswoman for the Superior National Forest said Tuesday the fire is now estimated to have burned across about 40 acres.

Ground crews are battling another wildfire in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness northwest of Ely. The Cummings Lake fire covers an estimated 20 acres. The area is filled with black spruce in a lowland area about 12 miles northwest of Ely.
