WAITE PARK - Waite Park Police and the Tri-County Crimestoppers are investigating an unusual spike of tire thefts.

Two incidents happened last week. Four tires were taken off a 2016 Kia Sportage sometime overnight on Monday (2-2)  in the 900 Block of 2nd Street South. The following night (2-3), two tires were taken off a 2002 Dodge Durango in the 2,000 block of Frontage Road.

Community service officer Alicia Mages says they've been dealing with several other tire thefts over the past few months.

"Those two were at car dealerships. One was a brand new vehicle. The other one was a vehicle that was at a car dealership but was there for repairs."

Anyone who notices suspicious activity in town is urged to contact Waite Park Police. So far, no arrests have been made in regards to the incidents.

"Sometimes we have crimes that happen and we kind of just scratch our heads. Not sure why there's such a high demand and why they would take a chance to do that," Mages says.
