ST. CLOUD - Today (Saturday) The WJON news team continues our countdown of the Top 10 local news stories of 2014. Coming in at number nine is the string of summertime shootings in St. Cloud.

The summer of 2014 will go down as one of the more violent ones in St. Cloud's history. There was a string of drive-by shootings that left residents rattled, and police frustrated.

One of the more visible incidents happened on Tuesday, July 8th. Authorities say it was an alleged drug deal gone bad that started on 33rd Avenue South  and ended at 22nd Avenue South. One man was shot twice and was taken to St. Cloud Hospital, while three other man have been arrested and are facing charges.

Another high-profile shooting happened near Clark Field on a Wednesday evening, at the same time a large crowd had gathered for the popular Summertime By George. In that incident, there was a fight and someone pulled out a gun and shot multiple times into the ground. No one was hurt.

St. Cloud police say these, and several other shootings around town, are not random and in most cases involve people who all know each other.

Coming-up on Monday we'll continue our countdown of the Top 10 local news stories with our #8 story of the year.
