Xcel Energy just announced the development of a new program in the St. Cloud area designed to help families save money in energy costs.

Three students from St. Cloud State University have designed a new scooter for Xcel Energy. The special scooter was built to allow Xcel engineers and technicians to inspect their 6 to 7 feet diameter concrete tubes that are used as a form of drainage system.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is conducting a special inspection of the Monticello nuclear power plant. That after Xcel Energy found a blockage in a fire suppression system.

Xcel Energy is inspecting it's electric transmission lines. Starting today (Monday), and continuing for the next six weeks, the lines will be checked by helicopter in Minnesota and the eastern Dakotas.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety will join other state agencies, law enforcement and first responders in the mock drill. It will test the capabilities of the responsible agencies in case of a real disaster.

Hundreds of customers are still without power today (Wednesday), due to yesterday's storms.
