The town has grown from around 4,600 people in 2000 to just under 7,000 now. The population growth has led to several new businesses and developments (like a community center and new government building).
St. Joseph is continuing to grow and their police department is hoping to adjust by adding another officer to its force. The department currently has eight full-time officers, two part-time officers and a secretary.
The St. Cloud Area School District is seeking an extension of their lease to allow them to keep early childhood programs at Colts Academy in St. Joseph for a little longer. The district is hoping for an extension until their new early childhood building is done on the Discovery school property.
Firefighters were on the scene of a house fire north of St. Joseph at about 9:45 a.m. today (Thursday). Stearns County Chief Deputy Sheriff Bruce Bechtold says they received a call that a dump truck had hit a power pole and the power lines were down.
Heat indexes are expected to be around 100 degrees over the next few days and an excessive heat warning is in effect through most of Friday. Despite this, over 700 bicyclists are expected to be taking part in the five-day 281-mile Bike MS: TRAM Ride
