St. John's will start freshman Nick Martin at quarterback Saturday when they host St. Olaf for homecoming at 1pm. Martin is a 6'3 195 pound pocket passer from Plymouth and Wayzata High School. He was 6-8 passing for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns in relief of Connor Bruns and John Ries Saturday at Concordia-Moorhead.

St. Thomas scored 29 straight points from the 2nd quarter to the 3rd quarter to put the game out of reach and beat rival St. John's 43-21. Connor Bruns threw for 316 yards and 2 touchdowns with 4 interceptions for the Johnnies. St. John's managed just 24 yards rushing in the game. Josh Bungum had 9 catches for 105 yards and Taylor Freetly had 7 catches for 89 yards and a touchdown for St. John's.

St. John's is coming off a 3-point win over UW-Eau Claire last Saturday in Eau Claire. Both the Johnnies and Tommies beat UW-Eau Claire by 3 points this season. St. Thomas is ranked #7 in the Nation in the latest Division III poll. St. John's is receiving votes in the top 25 poll.

The St. John's football team snuck by UW-Eau Claire Saturday 31-28 to improve to 2-0. St. John's scored 21 straight points to lead 28-14 and withstood a late comeback attempt by Eau Claire to win. Connor Bruns threw for 251 yards and 2 touchdowns and he ran for 45 yards for the Johnnies. Stephen Johnson ran for 54 yards and 1 touchdown. Rob Voshell and Max Forster each had 1 TD catch for St. John's.

The St. John's football team faces a big test Saturday when they play at UW-Eau Claire at 1pm. The Johnnies are 1-0 after a 52-7 win over Northwestern College last Saturday. St. John's has developed a rivalry with Eau Claire having played them in non-conference play for the past few seasons. St. John's lost to Eau Claire last year 47-19 in Collegeville.

The St. John's football team pounded Northwestern College 52-7 Saturday. St. John's posted 586 yards of total offense against Northwestern. Connor Bruns threw for 208 yards and a touchdown, Nick Schneider and Stephen Johnson each ran for 52 yards with Schneider scoring twice and Johnson scoring once. Schneider also had a receiving touchdown. Ben Krebsbach had 2 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown for St. John's.

The St. John's football team is looking for improvement on their 6-4 finish in 2011. The Johnnies didn't have stability at quarterback in 2011 but this season they appear to have that. Connor Bruns has emerged as the starting quarterback and will start week one against Northwestern University Saturday at 1pm at Clemens Stadium.

The St. John's football team began practice Sunday in Collegeville. The Johnnies were 6-4 overall in 2011 and were 5-3 in the MIAC. The Johnnies missed the playoffs and expect better results in 2011. St. John's may be a bit more settled at quarterback in 2011 with Connor Bruns returning as the starting quarterback. Bruns is just a sophomore. He closed the 2011 season with 3 touchdown passes in a blowout win over Hamline.
