Area College Students Set to Graduate this Weekend

The College of Saint Benedict, St. Cloud State University and Saint John's University are all hosting spring commencement ceremonies this weekend. More than 1,180 St. Cloud State students expected to participate in commencement ceremonies at 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The 100th annual commencement ceremony at the College of Saint Benedict is at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Clemens Field House.

Waite Park Council Approves To Move Forward With Land Use Study Agreement

St. Cloud State University will now be responsible for figuring out the best way to grow the undeveloped areas of Waite Park. Last week the council sat down with SCSU economic professors King Banian and Rich MacDonald to hear their proposal on how to evaluate the areas in need.

St. Cloud State and Six Area Districts Working to Create Center For Partnership

St. Cloud State University and several area school districts are working together to create a collaborative center for partnership. The idea came from the Teacher Preparation Initiative, comprised of six partner school districts and St. Cloud State University. The program started in 2009 and has been funded through a ten-year $4.5 million grant by the Bush Foundation.

Waite Park, SCSU to Partner On Plan for Future Growth in the City

Waite Park is exploring ways to better utilize the undeveloped areas of the city at they look towards the future. The city last updated their comprehensive plan back in 2006, and felt with the change in development and growth of the city, the ideas planned for those areas do not fit the mold for today.

MnSCU Board Approves Land Swap with St. Cloud

The MnSCU Board of Trustees have approved a proposed land swap between St. Cloud State University and the city of St. Cloud. However, after consulting with the Minnesota Attorney General's office, it was determined a land exchange is not viable.

Fargo Turns Out To Be Anything But Neutral

The listed capacity at Scheels is 6,000. St. Cloud State was allotted 400 tickets and quickly sold out, and Michigan Tech appeared to travel about 100 fans to Fargo. Attendance by anyone from Quinnipiac was spotty at best.

SCSU, MnSCU Leaders Make Financial Recovery Plans

Declining enrollment at Minnesota's state-run colleges and universities has campus leaders drafting new plans to deal with decreased funding. St. Cloud State is among the hardest hit. Enrollment has dropped about 17 percent since 2011 and is expected to decline another 5 percent this year.
