The Shopko store in Paynesville is one of 39 stores the company is planning to close. One other Minnesota store, in Mahnomen, is on that list.

While some retailers are opting to stay closed on Thanksgiving Day, Shopko will be open once again.

You now have another option of where you can buy your groceries in St. Cloud. Both St. Cloud Shopko locations have expanded to include a grocery department.

Paynesville is getting a Shopko. The company has announced they'll be moving into the vacant former Alco store at 810 Diekman Drive, under the "Shopko Hometown" store brand. There are over 200 Shopko Hometown stores, which is a smaller concept store for smaller communities.

Shopko plans to close six Pamida stores and consolidate the headquarters of the two companies after completing its acquisition of the competing retailer.

Retailers Shopko and Pamida say they plan to merge, creating a company with nearly 350 stores in 22 states.
