Melrose’s Smock Wins at U.S. Olympic Trials

Melrose native Amanda Smock (Tieschafer) won the women's triple-jump at the U.S. Olympic trials Monday night in Eugene, Oregon. Smock is headed to London for the Summer Olympics. Her best jump was her first, 45 feet and 9 inches.

Melrose native Amanda (Thieschafer) Smock has qualified for the Olympics later this summer in London. Twenty-nine year old Smock won the triple jump this (Monday) evening at the U.S. Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

This is the second weekend for the Star of the North Games in St. Cloud. Besides athletes playing in a variety of sports like LaCross and soccer, some Olympic athletes will also be in town. Saturday's event is at 7:00 p.m. at St. Cloud State's Halenbeck Hall Fitness Center.
