Mild and more moist air will move into the area over the weekend as a storm system approaches. Areas of fog and drizzle, possibly freezing over parts of far east central and southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin are possible tonight into Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service says the first snow snow of the season is likely tonight (Friday) across portions of central and southern Minnesota. Due to warm ground, snow accumulations should remain minor and on grassy areas or elevated surfaces.
High pressure for today will give way to an approaching cold front from the Dakotas. Scattered showers with a few thunderstorms during the day Friday will become more numerous Friday night ahead of the cold front.
The National Weather Service says there is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, generally along and south of the Interstate 94 corridor, from Alexandria to the Twin Cities.
