It's almost back to school time, which means parents have to open their wallets but unfortunately some can't afford to buy the basic supplies for their kids.
Catholic Charities Emergency Services Food Shelf ranks second in the state after a successful Minnesota FoodShare campaign. The organization collected more that $160,000 and 210,000 pound of food during March Foodshare Month to help battle hunger in the St. Cloud area.
It was another successful year for the annual Pack the Porch Food Drive. Catholic Charities Executive Director Steve Bresnahan says they collected more than 14,000 pounds of food and raised about $10,000, smashing last year's record of 3,500 pounds of food.
The chance to work with children, teach them new skills and give back to the community is why Carol Theisen and Sister Joyce Piotrowski volunteer as foster grandparents.
