St. Cloud Teen Finishes 3rd in Midwest ‘Youth of the Year’ Competition

CHICAGO – Minnesota’s State Youth of the Year Jerry Akubue made it to the final rounds at the Midwest competition before being sent home Wednesday.

Akubue competed against 12 other teens all vying to be named the 2013 Midwest Youth of the Year.

Christine Kostelsi is the Unit Director of the Southside Boys and Girls Club. She says judges had all positive things to say about Akubue.

He lost against Michigan’s State Youth of the Year.

Akubue plans on attending St. Cloud State University in the fall. He has won a total of $13,000 in scholarship money which will help pay for his dream of becoming a medical doctor.
