St. Cloud -- The list of superintendent candidates for the St. Cloud area is down to six.

The position opened up after current Superintendent, Bruce Watkins announced he will be retiring at the end of June.

The Board announced the names last night at a special meeting, while also interviewing Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart who serves as superintendent at Proviso Township High Schools district in Illinois.

The five other candidates will be interview today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday).

The list of additional candidates include:
Dr. Michael Funk, superintendent of the Albert Lea school district.
Rick Mills, chief executive officer of the Minneapolis Public school district.
Willie Jett, assistant superintendent of the St. Paul school district.
John Engelking, superintendent of the Proctor school district.
Diane Moeller, assistant superintendent of the St. Cloud school district.

School officials say they hope to pick the final two or three candidates after tomorrow (Thursday) night's Board meeting. Each candidate will then spend a day in the district next week. The final selection is expected to be made next Wednesday night.
