Apollo High School Hires New Soccer Coaches

District 742 has found a new soccer coach for the Apollo boys soccer team. Adbikhani (Seyga) Omar Mohamed will take the place of Ganard Orionzi, whose contract was allowed to expire earlier this summer. Mohamed has played soccer for more than 25 years and professionally for nine years.

St. Cloud Technical and Community College president Joyce Helens has signed a new three year contract with the school. Helens is now in her 10th year with the college. She says they've added several new programs over the last decade.

SCTCC Seeking $625,000 to Update and Expand Three Classrooms

The St. Cloud Technical and Community College is seeking $625,000 in state funds to expand and update three classrooms. The college will ask for legislative funding in January and would hope to receive the money next summer. The three classrooms used to be dental labs before the health and finances building was updated.

Elementary Students Create Inventions at Talahi This Summer [VIDEO]

Over the past two weeks, elementary students have been learning how to create their own inventions at Talahi Community School. The students have been taking part in a program called Camp Invention. The program focuses on STEM (Science, technology, engineering and math) and encourages kids to imagine and create their own inventions.

Summer Reading Program Bus Delivering Books to Children in Need [VIDEO]

Thanks to a partnership and $15,000 gift from the St. Cloud Rotary Club, LEAF was able to expand its parents and kids reading aloud together (PAKRAT) program into the summer. The program gives books to kids who lack access to them in preschool through third grade.

Months After Tech Protest, Students Working Together to Improve Area Schools

On March 25th, over 100 students, mostly Somali, walked out and protested outside of Tech High School. Over three months later, the protest is still sparking conversations between students, teachers and district officials on how to improve conditions in St. Cloud area schools.

SCTCC Announces Name For New Veterans Center

The St. Cloud Technical and Community College has announced the name of its new veterans' center. After public voting the center will be named the Homefront Resource Center, a center for service members, veterans and their families. The new center will be in the former CentraCare Heartland building.

St. Cloud School Board Selects Erickson For Open Seat

The St. Cloud area school district has picked Debbie Erickson to fill an empty seat on the school board. Erickson is co-chair of the District 742 bond referendum committee and was a member of the high school task force. She is also a board member of the local education and activities foundation (LEAF).

District Planning to Sell Tech High School Building and Build on Clark Field

The St. Cloud area school district is planning to sell the Tech High School building and put in a new building on Clark Field. The school board will review and is expected to pass the plans during their meeting on Thursday night. The district is planning to sell the Tech High School and media services buildings.

Four St. Cloud Area Schools Honored For Improvement in Student Behavior

Four schools in the St. Cloud area school district were honored by the Minnesota Department of Education on Wednesday. Oak Hill Community School, Apollo High School, Talahi Community School and Westwood Elementary School were among 36 schools recognized for their work using the positive behavioral intervention and supports (PBIS) program.
