ST. CLOUD -- A plan to expand the Anna Marie's Alliance building has been given the approval by the St. Cloud City Council.  The council needed to vote to rezone the property in that area in order for the project to move forward.

The first phase is a new 7,000 square foot building called "The Center for Family Peace" which will be used for prevention and education, as well help people who don't necessarily need a place to stay.

They are hoping to break ground on this building in May.

The second phase would double the size of the shelter, although they plan to maintain the number of beds at 36.  They want to go to more apartment style living instead of the current dormitory style spaces.

They have raised about $1.9 million so far for the project.

Anna Marie's Alliance is a non-profit that helps domestic abuse victims.
