ST. JOSEPH -- Students at the College of St. Benedict will be participating in the first ever Bennie Day of Service event Saturday. The event encourages students to volunteer and become community leaders.

Student coordinator Christa Troup says the event is being held in honor of the college's centennial.

The day will kick off with a breakfast for student participants at 9:30 a.m. followed by breakout sessions.

Students will learn more about youth, elderly and immigrant refugee populations in St. Cloud. Community members are invited to an open house following the educations sessions at 1:30 p.m.

Students will be set up at various locations throughout the campus displaying many of the college's clubs and organizations.

A community reflection of the day is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. Local churches and non-profit organizations are encouraged to attend.
