WAITE PARK - Both new and experienced cross-country skiers gathered at Quarry Park Friday night for the annual moonlight ski event.

Stearns County Park and Recreation and the Nordic Ski Club of Central Minnesota hosted this annual event. Peter Theismann with Stearns County Parks says the event started around 20 years ago.

"About 20 years ago some energetic skiers wanted other people to enjoy what they enjoyed," Theismann says.

Cross-Country skiers had a chance to ski over four miles on the groomed trails at the park. Over 200 lights illuminate the ski path, which is open though the winter season.

Theismann adds that the event is typically held early on in the winter as a way to introduce others to skiing and the trails in the area.

"Having this early in the season, it's a chance to introduce people to cross-country skiing," Theismann says.

More information on the park and its skiing trails can be found on the Stearns County website.
