ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Police have shot and killed a man who they say possibly fired a rifle at officers in St. Paul.

St. Paul Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Paulos says police received a 911 call Monday about a man with a rifle. Paulos says when officers arrived, they saw the man in an alley with a rifle and a bulletproof vest.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the man ran into a house, and SWAT team negotiators were called in.

At some point, Paulos says, police encountered the man, who possibly shot at officers. Paulos says police opened fire and killed the man.

No officers were hurt. The man's name has not been released.

White Bear Avenue near Interstate 94 was shut down for a time after the shooting but has since reopened.
