FREEPORT - One person is dead after a house fire in Freeport on Tuesday morning.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened just after 3:30 a.m. at 203 1st Avenue South.

Responders arrived and found the home fully engulfed in flames. Three people were in the house when the fire started, two were able to escape and were treated for smoke inhalation. The third person was found dead inside the home.

The names of those involved haven't been released until family members have been contacted. The State Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.

The body has been sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

Fire departments from Albany and Melrose helped at the scene. At this time, officials are still on the scene.
