ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – A public memorial service for Nelson Mandela will be held Saturday in St. Paul.

The memorial for the late South African leader and anti-apartheid fighter will begin at 1 p.m. in the Cathedral of St. Paul.

Scheduled speakers include U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and Minneapolis Mayor-elect Betsy Hodges.

Leaders of different faiths also will speak as well as South Africans.

The service is organized by a planning committee led by retired Hennepin County Judge LaJune Thomas Lange, Minnesota’s honorary consul for South Africa. The memorial is free and open to the public.

Mandela died last week at age 95. He served as South Africa’s first black and democratically elected president from 1994 to 1999.
