Marcy was born in rural Dazey, ND, to Elizabeth (Kunze) and Henry Bauer. Marcy attended grade school on Sibley Trail in ND. At the age of 9, Marcy moved with her family to rural Bluffton, MN, and the New York Mills area where she attended school, graduating from New York Mills High School in 1942.

After graduation, Marcy moved to St. Paul, MN, to work at Montgomery Wards department store. Later that year Marcy worked at Northwest Airlines and was one of the original “Rosie the Riveter”, her job involved removing the bombing equipment from the B-52 bombers. Following her position with the airlines, she went to work in St. Paul at the Liggetts Soda Fountain as a waitress and district manager.

On July 17, 1944, Marcy married Lawrence O. Hendrickx from Butler, MN, in Colorado Springs, CO, by the Army Chaplain. When Lawrence went overseas during WWII, Marcy returned to the Bluffton area to assist her parents with the family farm while awaiting Lawrence’s return from Europe.

Upon Lawrence’s honorable discharge from the Army after being wounded, Marcy and Larry moved to St. Cloud to raise their family. She began her career as a cake decorator out of her home and was renowned for her wedding cakes, baked from scratch with a creative flair. Her cakes were not only delicious but meticulous in their decorations. In 1969, Marcy began work as a lunchroom supervisor and a para for Madison Elementary school in St. Cloud, MN. Upon retiring from Madison, Marcy continued with cake decorating until 2005.

Marcy was a member of St. Peter’s Parish and Christian Women, the VFW Post 428 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 622 Auxiliaries. She not only enjoyed cake decorating but working with gardening, canning, crocheting, puzzles, and reading romance novels.

Marcy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Lyle (Faith), brother Donald, and daughter-in-law Lori (Spicer) Hendrickx. Marcy is survived by her children Maureen, Park Rapids, MN; Wayne (Dinah) Othello, WA; Anita, St. Cloud; Tony (Lori-deceased), St. Cloud; Glen, Truckee, CA; and Brenda (Dean Heidelberger), Lake George, MN; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, and daughter-in-law, Faith.

The family would like to thank the St. Cloud Hospital South 6 floor Staff, Dr. Patrick Zook, Dr.Tom Wyne and Dr. Greg Cooper for the care that they provided Marcy throughout her recent medical journey and the kindness, and support from the staff at the Shopko West Pharmacy.
