ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud man has pleaded guilty to felony charges involving an incident where he held his ex-girlfriend and her son at gunpoint.

22-year-old Nimesh Patel pleaded guilty today (Friday) to first degree burglary, kidnapping and second degree assault charges in exchange that three other charges be dropped.

According to the criminal complaint, Patel was planning to kill his former girlfriend, her son and her new boyfriend. Despite an order for protection out against him, Patel went to her Waite Park apartment last October, held the mother and son captive for hours. She was able to talk him into leaving the apartment and leaving them unharmed.

Patel called police the next day and officers shot him during a standoff in east St. Cloud.

A sentencing date is expected to be set for late December.
