December 31, 1919 - August 26, 2016

 

Katheryn E. Peterson, age 96, of Princeton, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Elim Home in Princeton.

Katheryn was born on December 31, 1919 in Princeton, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Diedrich) Buckingham. The two ended their marriage and Katheryn’s mother married Rueben Snow, Katheryn’s step-father. Katheryn was united in marriage to Richard A. Peterson on June 16, 1938. The couple farmed in Princeton. Katheryn also worked as a supervisor at Fingerhut and then worked at Federal Cartridge where she retired from. She was an active member of Freshwater’s United Methodist Church in Princeton. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, volunteered at the clothing center and for meals on wheels and also worked with community ed. Katheryn sewed all of the families’ clothing, enjoyed quilting at the church, was a phenomenal cook and had an amazing memory. She was looked up to as the matriarch and was very devoted to her family. She will be dearly missed.

Katheryn is survived by her children, Colleen (Auggie) Grapentin, Shirley (Norman) Anderson, Sandra Gerdin, Patricia Skarohlid, Mary Beth (Roy) Valentini and Richard A. Peterson Jr.; 15 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Violet Buckingham; nephews Jerry (Amy) Buckingham and Tom Bayerle; and niece Janice Buckingham.

She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father, husband Richard A., brothers Jerome and Pat, sister Jeanette and grandson Anthony Valentini.

Visitation for Katheryn will be Monday, August 29, 2016 at Freshwater’s United Methodist Church, River Campus, in Princeton from 4-7 PM and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the church. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Princeton, MN following the service.
