ST. CLOUD - A new exhibit with kids in mind is opening on Friday in St. Cloud. "Healthyville" is at the Stearns History Museum.

Executive Director Jim Davis says it's a traveling exhibit that they have on loan from a children's museum in Connecticut.

A whole number of exhibits that kids can touch and feel and ride bike and row boats and become engaged in activities.

"Healthyville" is designed primarily for kids ages five through 12. Davis says it's a unique exhibit for them to bring in to the community.

It's a departure for the Stearns History Museum to try this direction. And so we have rented this traveling exhibit and it will really help us understand the potential for that right here in St. Cloud and this region to support this kind of activity.

Meanwhile, their parents and grandparents can check out a companion exhibit about the history of health care in Stearns County.

Davis says St. Cloud Hospital was quite an undertaking by the sisters.

So when it opened at the end of 1928 it at that time was the largest one west of the Mississippi in the country.

One interesting picture shows how St. Cloud Hospital was out in the middle of nowhere when it was built.

People at the time thought the sisters were a little crazy to be out in the middle of no where, between St. Cloud and Sauk Rapids and put this up.

The "Healthyville" exhibit will be at the Stearns History Museum through September 4th. If you want to check it out, the museum is open seven days a week.
