UNDATED - Widespread rain expected across much of the area today, with the heaviest rain expected along and south of a line from Fairmont to Eau Claire, where totals in excess of 2" are expected.

Forecasters say there's a risk of flash flooding in southern Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin.

The National Weather Service says 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected over southeastern Minnesota and southwestern Wisconsin, with up to 6 inches in localized areas. A flash flood watch has been issued for those areas.

Meteorologists say the heavy rain will move from Minnesota into western Wisconsin later Thursday. The rain is expected to come to an end by Friday morning.
