A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring, MN for George Thomas Cordt, age 83, who died Saturday at his home. Inurnment will be at the Minnesota States Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

George was born in Big Stone City, South Dakota to William and Agnes (Ludwig) Cordt. He married Bonnie Lu Horsky and they had 4 children. George later married June Thelen. He spent most of his childhood in and around Fairmont, MN. George joined the Air Force 1952 at the age of 19. He traveled all over the world and worked in places such as England, Denmark, Germany and Bermuda. In the states he was stationed in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Ohio and Arizona. He started his career as an airplane mechanic – a line Chief, working on C-47’s that he says were older then he was. George was in Vietnam twice and received a medal for his tour in 1968 through 1969. He achieved the rank of E7- Master Sergeant. He retired in 1972 at the age of 39, having served 20 years, 3 months, 13 days and 12 minutes. After the Air Force he started his 2nd career at the U.S. Post Office, retiring there.

He is survived by his children, Becky (Dan) Ouimette in Pell City, AL, Debra (Lowell) Rokala-Mathiowetz in New Ulm, MN and Karen (Larry) Huhn in Darwin, MN; step-children, Jennifer Heinrich, Jim (Debbie) VanVooris, Jeff VanVooris, and Scott Thelen; siblings, William in Fairmont, MN, Albert “Bud” (Darlene) in Northrop, MN, Alice in Golden Valley, MN and Robert (Jeanie) in Shakopee; Loyal furry companion, Cordtney; Grandchildren, Dr. Danielle Monteil in OH, Dr Jenelle Hodges in AL, Lorielle Ouimette in MI, SFC Saara Loch in MN, Seth Rokala in MN, Benjamin Huhn in OH, and Joseph Huhn in MN; and great-grandchildren, Lily, Mason, Caleb, Lyndsey, Catelyn, Peyton, Kaitlyn, Kammie, Lylee, Hayden, Henley, Shyra, Skyla, Summer and Sophia.

He was preceded in death by his son, G. Thomas Cordt, Jr; wife, June (Thelen) Cordt, parents, William & Agnes; sister, Mary Ann Newmiller; brother-in-law, Carl Newmiller; and sister-in-law, Helen Cordt.
