Freeze Warning: Cover Your Sensitive Plants Tonight

ST. CLOUD -- What a difference a week makes! Record high temperatures arrived last Friday and now we're expecting below freezing temperatures overnight tonight.

Tom Woods of Woods Farmer Seed & Nursery says you're going to want to cover your sensitive plants before going to bed.

Many perennials can handle short periods of cold according to Woods, but recently transplanted items, hydrangeas, and vegetables should be covered. Flowering fruits can lose their crop if not covered, but shouldn't damage the plant itself unless it's been recently transplanted.

Woods says look at your growing conditions to determine the risk. Low-lying areas tend to freeze quicker and southerly exposure offers a little more protection.

The rule of thumb is if your unsure, it's better to be on the safe side and cover them.
