ST. JOSEPH - Former St. Cloud State University political science professor and St. Joseph city council member Stephen Frank died Wednesday.

Frank served on the St. Joseph city council from January 2008 to December 2015. He was a professor at SCSU for 38 years before retiring.

Frank started the SCSU survey program in 1980. It's done once a year in the fall and focus on statewide issues such as election races or current events. During his career he was also head of the political science department, president of the SCSU Faculty Association, and president of the Minnesota Political Science Association.

According to the St. Joseph Facebook page, Frank passed away as a result of complications from surgery.

"Steve participated in many organizations, supported many events and contributed his professional expertise while serving."

Frank was also a semi-regular guest on the WJON Morning Newswatch, offering his political expertise to current events.
