Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville for Donald A. Wartenberg, age 90, of Paynesville, who passed away on Friday, October 10, 2014 at his home. Reverend Ric Koehn will officiate. Burial will take place in the Paynesville cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville and after 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Donald was born on December 31, 1923, at home in Paynesville Township to Reuben and Mathilda (Ernst) Wartenberg. He attended school at District #23 in rural Paynesville. Donald worked on the family farm and was able to witness the transition of farming with horses to farming with tractors and machinery. He married Corrine Manz on December 5, 1956 at the Methodist parsonage in Paynesville. To this union, one daughter was born. Donald and Corrine farmed together for 52 years raising cattle and chickens as well as grain farming until their retirement. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Club from 1944 until 1949 and was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville.

Donald was an avid outdoorsman, spending countless hours hunting and fishing during his retirement. He also enjoyed watching football, baseball and NASCAR. His greatest joy was time spent with family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Bety (John) Danielson of Kandiyohi; two grandchildren, Barry Danielson and Kari (Shane) Steinbeisser; one great grandson, Christopher Danielson; sister-in-laws, Marvis Manz, Nadeen Manz, and Violet Manz of Paynesville.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Corrine in 2009; brother-in-law, Orville Manz.
