ST. CLOUD — The city of St. Cloud is working to clear the way for a land donation that would add park land to Whitney Park.

Parks and Recreation Director Scott Zlotnik says John and Mary Weitzel are offering six acres of land between the Sauk River and the Whitney Dog Park.

Zlotnik says the land fits the city’s comprehensive plan for natural resources protection and access to the river.

The Park and Recreation Advisory Board approved the donation this week and it must also pass the planning commission and city council before the deal is complete.

Zlotnik says the city wouldn’t make any improvements to the additional park land immediately, but would study the best way to use its natural resources and river access.
