ST. CLOUD -- Staff at St. Cloud Cathedral are dealing with the aftermath of water damage caused by a broken sprinkler system.

Just before 2:00 a.m. Tuesday morning a sprinkler head in the Holy Angels Performing Arts Center either failed or started for some other reason gushing water inside the facility.

President Mike Mullin says the Fire Marshall believes a large heating vent in the far corner of the church, triggered a nearby sprinkler head to go off.

Mullin adds most of the stage area was completely flooded with water, and the water worked its way to the lower levels of the building causing the most damage in the music room below.

Due to the damage several events scheduled for the auditorium over the next few weeks have been rescheduled or moved to another venue.

Mullin says they are taking every precautionary approach when it comes to cleaning up the mess and hope to have everything repaired by Christmas.
