Timberwolves rookie phenom point guard Ricky Rubio is done for the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee. He was run into by Laker guard Kobe Bryant late in the game Friday night. Rubio scored 15 points and had 10 assists for the Wolves Friday night. Rubio is averaging 10.6 points and 8.2 assists a game this season. J.J. Barea and Luke Ridnour are expected to handle the point guard duties with Rubio out.

The Rocori boys basketball team defeated Orono 53-49 Saturday afternoon in the section 53A semifinals at St. Cloud State University. Rocori will play the Delano/Big Lake winner in the section 53A title game Thursday March 15 at 7pm. Hear the game on WJON.

The Timberwolves lost 105-102 at home against the Los Angeles Lakers Friday night. Minnesota played without forward Kevin Love who couldn't play because of back spasms. Derrick Williams missed a shot in the lane with just seconds left that could have given the Wolves the lead. Nikola Pekovic led the Wolves with 25 points and 13 rebounds, Derrick Williams had 22 points and 10 rebounds and Ricky Rubio added 15 points and 10 assists.

The Gopher men's basketball team had Michigan on the ropes in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals but allowed the Wolverines to come from down 6 points with 1:25 left to force overtime. Michigan won 73-69 in overtime to eliminate Minnesota. Freshman guard Andre Hollins led Minnesota with 21 points and 6 assists and Rodney Williams chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds.

The St. Cloud State men's hockey team defeated Nebraska-Omaha 4-0 in game 1 of their WCHA first round playoff series and lead 1 game to none heading into tonight's game 2. Joe Rehkamp and Ben Hanowski each scored a goal in the first period, Andrew Prochno scored for SCSU in the 2nd and Taylor Johnson scored a power play goal for the Huskies in the 3rd. Mike Lee had 27 saves to get the shutout in net for SCSU.

The Minnesota Wild downed Phoenix 3-2 in an overtime shootout Thursday night. Dany Heatley scored the game-winner in the shootout for Minnesota. Kyle Brodziak and Steve Kampfer each scored a goal for the Wild in regulation and Matt Hackett had 15 saves after replacing Josh Harding. Harding had 24 saves and no goals allowed for the Wild.

The Gopher men's basketball team defeated Northwestern 75-68 in overtime in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis Thursday night. Freshman Andre Hollins missed a 19-foot jumper with 4 seconds left in regulation that could have won the game. Hollins led the Gophers with 25 points and 5 rebounds. The 25 points for Hollins in a new career high. Rodney Williams and Austin Hollins each scored 12 points for Minnesota.
