ST. CLOUD - A family-owned chicken production company in central Minnesota is being sold to another family-owned company in Carlyle, Illinois.

The Maschoffs LLC is buying GNP Company and its Gold'n Plump, Just BARE and Sunny Roost brands.

GNP Corporate Relations Manager Lexann Reischl says the two companies will operate as separate business units.  She says GNP's headquarters will stay in St. Cloud and no jobs will be lost...

Reischl also says their 350 local family farm partners will also be retained.

A news release from the Maschoffs says the purchase won't have any immediate impact on GNP Company's chicken business or The Maschoff's pork production business.

Reischl says the transaction will benefit GNP's growth.

GNP Company sales are expected to be about $400 million in 2013.

The Maschoffs spokesman Chuck Sanger says the GNP Company and The Maschoffs pork production business will operate as separate business units.

Based in Carlyle, Illinois, The Maschhoffs is owned by fifth generation family members Dave Maschhoff and his wife Karen, and Ken Maschhoff and his wife Julie.

The Maschhoffs is the nation’s largest independent, family-owned swine operation, with approximately 208,000 sows and associated market hog production in nine states.  The company, which has over 1,200 employees, focuses on creating environmentally and economically sustainable pork production systems by networking with 450 other independent farm operations.
