Jim Maurice

I’m a lifelong resident of this great state of Minnesota. I grew-up in the small West Central Community of Maynard.  After graduating from the Brown Institute of Radio Broadcasting, I began my professional career working nights at KDMA radio in Montevideo back in 1988.  In 1995, I moved to Redwood Falls and worked as the sports director for KLGR radio.  I eventually became their morning show co-host and program director. I’ve been working here at WJON in St. Cloud since 2005, and have been the news director since 2007.  The main beats that I cover include: politics, education, and local government. People often ask me, “What’s the best part of my job?”  The answer is that I get to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places, and I never know from one day to the next what my day is going to bring. When I’m not tracking down the latest news story, you can most likely find me doing anything outdoors, whether it’s camping or boating in the summer, or snowmobiling in the winter.

News @ Noon: Minnesota Vikings to Kick-Off 50th Training Camp in Mankato

Mankato is getting ready for another Minnesota Vikings training camp. The 50th anniversary of the Vikings in Mankato starts Saturday, and runs through August 13th. Visit Mankato spokesman Chris Willaert says the fan experience has changed a lot over the past 50 years.

Very Old St. Cloud Home to be Demolished, Or You Can Have It

One of the oldest homes in St. Cloud and Stearns County has been sold, and is scheduled to be torn down, unless someone steps up to take it and save it. Fredrich Kuhne homesteaded 160 acres near what's now County Road 75/Roosevelt Road way back in 1854.

News @ Noon: Program Created to Lure Hollywood Productions to Minnesota

Sightings of Hollywood stars are suddenly more easy to come by in Minnesota. Actors Woody Harrelson and Laura Dern are filming the movie "Wilson" in the Twin Cities right now. Troy Parkinson is from the Minnesota Film and TV Board. He says last year the State Legislature allocated $10 million to the "snowbate" program, to help lure more production projects.
