Jim Maurice

I’m a lifelong resident of this great state of Minnesota. I grew-up in the small West Central Community of Maynard.  After graduating from the Brown Institute of Radio Broadcasting, I began my professional career working nights at KDMA radio in Montevideo back in 1988.  In 1995, I moved to Redwood Falls and worked as the sports director for KLGR radio.  I eventually became their morning show co-host and program director. I’ve been working here at WJON in St. Cloud since 2005, and have been the news director since 2007.  The main beats that I cover include: politics, education, and local government. People often ask me, “What’s the best part of my job?”  The answer is that I get to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places, and I never know from one day to the next what my day is going to bring. When I’m not tracking down the latest news story, you can most likely find me doing anything outdoors, whether it’s camping or boating in the summer, or snowmobiling in the winter.

St. Cloud Man Sentenced to Nearly 23 Years in Prison for Shooting

A St. Cloud man has been sentenced today (Thursday) to nearly 23 years in prison for a drug sale robbery and shooting last July. Cornelius Payton was convicted by Stearns County Judge Kris Davick-Halfen in a bench trial back in March.

Catholic Charities Announces $400,000 Challenge Gift

Catholic Charities in St. Cloud has announced a major gift in their capital campaign. Executive Director Steve Bresnahan says nine people are donating $400,000 in the form of a challenge gift for the "Saving Children, Saving Families" campaign. He says the money raised will focus on creating an endowment to support their 40 different programs.

St. Cloud City Councilwoman Nancy Gohman Resigns

For the second time in seven months St. Cloud city councilwoman Nancy Gohman has resigned from her position. Gohman sent a resignation letter to the city today (Tuesday) saying that she was stepping down as the representative of Ward 2 effective immediately for personal reasons.

Sauk Rapids City Council Approves Ordinance on Problem Properties

The Sauk Rapids city council wants to start cleaning-up problem properties around town. The council held a public hearing on the issue during tonight's (Tuesday) meeting. Several people spoke both for-and-against a new ordinance that will regulate buildings and vehicles on private property.

88 Year Old Pole Vaulter, 100 Year Old Golfer Competing in Minnesota Senior Games

Senior athletes from all over Minnesota are coming to St. Cloud this weekend. Minnesota Senior Games Coordinator Kelly Sayre says over 400 athletes will be competing in 28 different events over four days from Thursday through Sunday.
