Jim Maurice

I’m a lifelong resident of this great state of Minnesota. I grew-up in the small West Central Community of Maynard.  After graduating from the Brown Institute of Radio Broadcasting, I began my professional career working nights at KDMA radio in Montevideo back in 1988.  In 1995, I moved to Redwood Falls and worked as the sports director for KLGR radio.  I eventually became their morning show co-host and program director. I’ve been working here at WJON in St. Cloud since 2005, and have been the news director since 2007.  The main beats that I cover include: politics, education, and local government. People often ask me, “What’s the best part of my job?”  The answer is that I get to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places, and I never know from one day to the next what my day is going to bring. When I’m not tracking down the latest news story, you can most likely find me doing anything outdoors, whether it’s camping or boating in the summer, or snowmobiling in the winter.

UPDATE: Benton County Deputy Exchanges Gunfire With Suspect, No Injuries

A man has been arrested after allegedly exchanging gunfire with a deputy. Benton County Sheriff Chief Deputy Troy Heck says the incident began at about 6:00 p.m. this (Thursday) evening when dispatch received a call from a man stating he was "going to a storage facility and shoot some rounds off with his gun, just for fun".

Sartell Business Owner Not Happy About The State Minimum Wage Increase [AUDIO]

Employers are getting ready to give some of their staff raises. Tomorrow (Friday) the state's minimum wage goes up to $8 an hour, for businesses with gross annual sales over $500,000. Phyllis Gruby owns the A & W Restaurant in Sartell. She says their starting wage has been $7.25 an hour - the federal minimum wage.
