ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The Minnesota Department of Transportation says crews will undertake 308 road construction projects in 2014.

The $1.1 billion program includes 74 projects in the Twin Cities and 194 projects in Greater Minnesota. Those include bridge replacements on Highway 100 in St. Louis Park and street reconstruction in downtown Alexandria.

Another 40 projects statewide will improve safety at railroad crossings, runways and terminals at regional airports.

The $1.1 billion is about what the state budgeted for 2013.

State Transportation Commissioner Charlie Zelle likened the amount of work to "building a Vikings' stadium in a single season."

Gov. Mark Dayton said the work is necessary to "improve our quality of life."
