MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Authorities say a 27-year-old Minneapolis woman charged in a fatal hit-and-run on New Year's Eve was driving with only an instruction permit.

Donella Day is charged with criminal-vehicular homicide. Day remains jailed with bail set at $150,000.

Day is accused in the death of 37-year-old Aisha Freels in north Minneapolis Thursday night. Reports say Freels was crossing the street toward a waiting cab when she was struck.

The cab driver reportedly told investigators Freels was hit by a blue sedan going about 45 mph.

Day was arrested Sunday. She told officers she went to a liquor store and was on her way to a friend's house when she saw a woman in the street. She said the next thing she knew there was glass in her face.
