ST. CLOUD - June is National Rose Month and there's really no better place to celebrate in North America than the Virginia Clemens Rose Gardens in St. Cloud.

Deb Keiser is the Gardens Assistant and Rose Specialist.  She say our gardens are often referred to as one of the best.

Keiser says a couple of 2013 roses in the gardens this year are; "Twilight Zone" which is a deep burgundy purple, and "Sparkle and Shine" which is a bright yellow.  There are over 650 different varieties of roses in the gardens.

She says they have over 1,100 rose bushes in just the Clemens Gardens -- 1,800 throughout both Gardens.  Taking care of that many roses is a big undertaking.

Most of the work is done by a staff of four year round employees, and they also have about 20 seasonal staff that help throughout the summer.  The gardens are funded through city tax dollars and donations.

Caring for Roses:
If you want to start growing roses in your backyard, you need to find the perfect location first.

Keiser says you need to look for the right type of rose too.

Keiser says she and her staff at the Clemens Gardens invite you to come visit with them if you have any questions about how to grow your own roses.
