Van Strikes Woman in a Wheelchair

ST. CLOUD - A woman in a wheelchair was hit by a van as she was crossing the street.

St. Cloud police say the incident happened at about 3:45 p.m. yesterday (Tuesday) at 5th Avenue and 1st Street South.

They say 51-year-old Elizabeth Garcia was in the crosswalk in a motorized wheelchair when she was hit by a van driven by 43-year-old Howard Ramaley of Maple Grove.  Ramaley says he was blinded by the sun.

Garcia was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.  Ramaley was given a ticket.
