UPDATE: I-94 Near Avon Reopens, Deputy Hurt

AVON – More information is being released on the crash that closed the eastbound lanes of I-94 near Avon this morning.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Department and State Patrol were called to respond to a crash with injuries involving several vehicles at about 4:30 a.m. While on scene, authorities say a semi-truck lost control and struck the sheriff’s squad car while it was parked along the side of the road, lights flashing.

The deputy, Steve Matthews, was taken to St. Cloud Hospital, treated for his injuries and released.

The State Patrol re-opened the interstate earlier this morning.
