University of Minnesota Raises Tuition at Twin Cities Campus

MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota regents have approved a 2.5 percent tuition increase for Minnesotans who attend the Twin Cities campus.

The budget approved Friday means resident tuition on the Twin Cities campus will rise $306 to $12,546 a year. But President Eric Kaler says many undergraduates won't feel the increase and some will enjoy a cut because the extra cost will be offset by scholarships.

Regents also approved a 7.5 percent increase for new nonresident students from states without reciprocity agreements. The increase is capped at 5.5 percent for returning nonresidents.

Tuition will be frozen for resident undergraduates on the Duluth, Crookston, Morris and Rochester campuses.

Six protesters were arrested and led away from the meeting in handcuffs after they refused a police order to leave. They were cited and released.
