Twins Bounce Back Against Orioles Saturday

Vance Worley had another shaky outing but this time emerged with his first win as a Twin in Minnesota’s 8-5 win over Baltimore Saturday night. Worley (1-4) gave up three runs in the first inning but lasted long enough to see the Twins bats bail him out for the win.

With the Orioles leading 3-0 in the bottom of the third, the “M&M Boys” came through with run-scoring hits to cut the Baltimore lead to 3-2.

Baltimore got one back in the top of the fourth when Worley served up a solo bomb to catcher Matt Weiters that went over the left field fence 376 feet away.

The Twins tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a Brian Dozier two run double, then took a lead on Morneau’s single to score Mauer and Dozier and make the score 6-4.

Worley tried to cough it up in the top of the sixth by giving up a pair of singles and hitting a batter to make the score 6-5 when he was pulled in favor of Brian Duensing. The lefty reliever bailed out the Twins’ starter by inducing a double play ball from Nick Markakis to end the threat.

Ryan Doumit crushed a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to cap the Twins’ scoring in the game.

Worley finished with a line of 5.1 innings pitched, allowing five runs on 11 hits while striking out only one batter.

The Twins wrap up their series with Baltimore Sunday afternoon at 1 PM at Target Field.
