MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Authorities have identified the 42-year-old woman who died after being struck by a light rail train near the border of Minneapolis and St. Paul over the weekend.

Reports say Shana Buchanan was wearing headphones as she crossed the tracks near Westgate station Sunday morning. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The Hennepin County medical examiner's office says the cause and manner of her death are currently pending.

Transit official Bruce Howard says Buchanan tried to cross the tracks despite multiple warning signs and stepped directly into the path of an eastbound Green Line train.

Metro Transit Police will lead an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Buchanan's death marks the first Green Line light rail fatality since it began operating in mid-June.
