ST. CLOUD -- Changes are coming to an intersection near the St. Cloud Public Library.

Starting Monday, the traffic signal at the intersection of 12th Avenue and St. Germain Street West will go into red flash mode. One week later, on Monday, November 28th the signals will be removed and replaced with four-way stop signs.

A study done in 2014 determined a signal at that intersection wasn't necessary anymore. In 2008 MnDOT installed a median on Highway 23, eliminating 12th Avenue as a through street.

The cost to remove the signal is nearly $18,000, but city officials say the cost to remove the light is less than it would be for ongoing maintenance of the signal.
