On the night of July 21st, a van driven by 54-year-old Charles Maurer of Becker was traveling north on County Road 11, approaching the intersection with Highway 10. A pickup traveling east on Highway 10 ran a red light and collided with the van. Maurer died at the scene.

The crash left three passengers in the van hurt, including Maurer's 10-year-old daughter, Cassy, who died after being taken off life support 10 days later.

The driver of the pickup was originally reported as being an 18-year-old man from Little Falls, but an investigation revealed that 17-year-old Carlee Bollig of Little Falls was the person behind the wheel at the time of the crash.

Further investigation has led authorities to believe texting and driving was the cause of the crash. In August, a warrant was filed to search Bollig's cellphone.

As of now, Bollig's case is proceeding through the juvenile court system.

Coming-up tomorrow (Friday) we’ll have the #4 local news story in our Top 10 countdown.
